This story concerns a woman who finds herself in an elevator with one (or more, depending on the version) African American man (men) and becomes terrified. The instruction to “Hit the floor”as in “press the button” scares her so much that she dives to the floor in fear. Later the woman finds a bouquet of roses in front of her room with a large amount of money and a note thanking her for a great laugh.
This story demonstrates how the small interiors of elevators cause people to become acutely aware of social relationships. The state of being with others in an elevator may even cause people to act differently than the way they normally would as is clearly demonstrated in this anecdote.
