That is right it’s a boy, or is it a girl? Many parents await the time in which they will be able to determine the gender of their unborn baby. This has been made possible by a small machine connected to a computer screen, that sends sound waves through the body to produce an image. The ultrasound is portrayed in popular culture time and time again as a way to determine the gender of the baby that will soon be coming into the world. However, in today’s society there has been a gender division, and it seems that the most important thing about the baby is what color clothes you will be buying it. However, this technology has also led to a social issue on whether or not a mother will even be able to afford to have access to receiving an ultrasound. Medical technology is constantly developing and bringing new culture along with it however, with new culture comes new social issues and the ultrasound has brought the issue of increasing the gender division, as well as a division of access. Social issues arise with the changing culture new technology brings and it is unclear what will happen if this technology continues to develop even further.
