Tone Analysis

Tone Analysis:

The tones of both articles have great contrast in the area of the author incorporating their own voice.  The “eggs” article has more of an informational, reporting tone, kind of as if it is relaying a message to the reader, whereas the author of the “kitchen” text employs more authority and more of their own perspective into their writing.

The “eggs” article targets a specific audience, a type that would find it strange to set eggs out in open air as opposed to in a refrigerator, asking the reader to imagine their reaction to such a situation.  The author uses a hypothetical situation to catch the reader’s attention, as the situation turns out to be a parallel to reality, when it is revealed that despite the fact that we as Americans would view leaving eggs out of the fridge as odd, we are the actual odd ones in the eyes of most of the rest of the world.  This article, as opposed to the other writing, makes a heavy use of quotes in order to challenge the reader to think from different cultural perspectives, making us wonder how much of the technology we use today is actually necessary.

The actual voice of the author of the “kitchen” text can be heard in their writing, as the author implements a narrative .style tone into their writing.  One way this is accomplished is the volume of the use of the words “I” and “my” throughout the writing, as well as use of examples from the author’s own life to help move his point across in the writing.  The author also makes use of rhetorical strategies such as metaphors to keep the reader engaged with the content of the writing, making kitchen materials, such as the wooden spoon, appear to be life-like, and appear as if we as humans owe the objects themselves for making an impact in the way we cook and prepare food, which the author argues is an indispensable aspect of life.  There is also much recalling of historical details throughout the writing, and all of these strategies are used to move forward the idea that kitchen material is not given its due credit as being known as a form of technology, while identifying problems that point to the fact that these materials are still in need of improvement

Original Version of Intro:

One of the most influential inventions in the history of the world is systems of Artificial Intelligence.  A common misconception about AI is that Artificial Intelligence is the science of creating a robot or operating system that is capable of having the intelligent capacity equivalent to that of a human being (having thoughts, able to make decisions, able to function on its own without human intervention), like the robots we see in movies like Terminator.  However, robots, at the term’s basic roots, are machines that are able to carry out a series of operations to execute a function on its own without the need for a human to intervene.  Therefore, a computer is a robot, since it has the ability to carry out these functions like comply to user commands to search the web, analyze and process data, furthermore classifying it as a form of Artificial Intelligence.  There is no arguing the fact that computers have completely revolutionized the way the workforce, society, and industry all function, and still there is plenty of room for innovation in the field of Computer Science to make a greater impact on the world.  Looking at what the technology of Artificial Intelligence has accomplished already, it has managed to boost economic growth and help businesses work in a much more efficient manner, while giving advance tools for the world to use in incredible different ways. Artificial Intelligence research has stimulated a vast amount of economic growth throughout the world with the introduction of machines such as the computer, however, there are many aspects of Artificial Intelligence research that could cause a detrimental affect to society, as well as the productivity of the work force.

Revised Version of Intro:

Artificial Intelligence technology has wasted no time in becoming one of the most essential parts of everyday life in less than a century of its research and development. I changed the opening sentence only in the revised second paragraph, because I thought that I did a fair job at implementing my very own voice into the introduction paragraph of my paper.  However, I changed the opening sentence in order to add a more stand-out beginning, which grips the reader as the goal of the sentence is to make the reader wonder: “I thought we have not developed Artificial Intelligence technology yet, such as human-like robots.” Thoughts?
